Often times the only thing that needs to change is our perspective, and everything changes.
The power that our perspective has on our earthly experience is staggering. Repeatedly throughout the Scriptures, subsequent to the fall of man, people continued to tutor one another in the “way that seems right to a man, but in the end always produces death” (Prov. 14:12) and as a result, worldly wisdom robbed humanity of the harmonious fellowship with the truth that we were originally created to experience.
The Lord Jesus openly declared, “The eye is the lamp of the body”. (Mt. 6:22) Our eye (perception) is connected to our body (earthly experience) and if we see clearly with the mind and perspective of Christ, then we will live clearly with the conviction and power of truth. Jesus went on to teach, “but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness” (Mt. 6:23) If our perspective is not in alignment with Christ then we will experience frustrations, failures, and ultimately less than what God has intended for our life.
After the first Adam disobeyed God and sin entered the world, the immediate result was blame shifting and self focus. Created originally to be love, Adam and Eve were cut off from Love himself and began vainly seeking love from others to fulfill what only God could satisfy. Their children had children and this perspective and mindset permeated the earth and has now come over all of us through our natural birth. Thanks be to God in Christ that our Lord has come as the second Adam to give us a new birth through the seed of God!
Before being born-again, the wisdom of the world had deceived me into seeking satisfaction and acceptance from other people. As I went on this futile pursuit, I found more disappointment and letdown than my heart could handle. I was often defined by what others said or thought, and I was only as strong as the weakness of those around me. When the Holy Spirit revealed the truth to me, and I tasted the love of God through the man Christ Jesus laying his life down for those opposing him, I finally saw what was I was not seeing.
At that moment, I intentionally chose to receive and welcome that his love was the very love I was always seeking.
