Welcome / About the Founder
… How free is “free?”
When Christ says it is for freedom I have set you free, the question we ask at PLL is how free is free? For 20 years, we have watched God answer that question through more than 500 alumni lives.
Christ formation doesn’t happen just by going to church on Sunday. And it certainly doesn’t happen automatically. Christ formation happens in the context of intimate communion with God and others.
It happens when you have permission to ask those tough questions and to face those deeper concerns. It happens in a place where you have permission to share, wrestle with God and experience a deeper understanding of your faith that is sometimes clinging by a thread. It’s about taking the truths we know to be evident in the Scriptures and learning how to make them self-evident in our lives.
That journey from the head, through the heart and out into our lives leads to the abundant life Christ promised you.
If you’d like to understand what this greater freedom Christ is inviting you into, we encourage you to hang out with us for a little while – every two months I’ll be posting another aspect of PLL’s story and my own, for the two are very much intertwined. Thank you for visiting and remember, God has so much more for you and our team is ready to walk alongside you as you discover that “more.”

What We Are Doing
January-March: TRANSFORMATION
Free Refresher Course
Revisit and reignite your own personal spiritual transformation through a PLL Refresher led by Founder Cheryl Scanlan. While the core content is the same, the approach to delivery has changed much over the past 20 years. We have completely revamped the guidebook and the small group experience. Alumni will have an opportunity to connect directly with the PLL Community as well – look for emails inviting you to a FREE Refresher course that begins in late January.
May: BREAKTHROUGH!
Four-week Promised Land Living book discussion led by the author and ministry Founder, Cheryl Scanlan
Founder of Promised Land Living, Cheryl Scanlan, is finally writing a book and you get to be part of the process! You can opt into a four-week book discussion to talk through four chapters of her soon to be published book. Cheryl will be leading and discuss the book before it goes into final stage of editing. Registration link will be provided via email in April. Our belief is that this discussion, with Holy Spirit in the lead, will create powerful spiritual breakthroughs for you!
Summer: SUSTAINABLE GROWTH!
Summer gatherings across the country with PLL Alumni
Healing and continued transformation happen in the context of community so much better than in isolation. Also, PLL is a shoulder tapping ministry. Put those two ideas together and what do you have? Summer gatherings! PLL is planning gatherings around the country to connect with alumni and new friends to experience a culture of openness, belonging and growth. Stay tuned through email for more details. We will also have the Summer Gatherings posted on this landing page so check back here regularly beginning April 2025!
Fall: GENERATIONS
Invest in the ministry
Invest in the ministry to help us serve more folks just like our alumni! Our ministry is donor funded to keep entry costs for a person participating in a group low. Alumni will be invited to financially partner in the work of discipling the body of Christ throughout the year, with an emphasis on an exciting opportunity* at the fall close of our 20th anniversary celebration.
*500+ people have experienced a deeper relationship with God over the last 20 years because of taking PLL. We want to double that number over the next five years!
